Bolivia

Bolivia has been great....for the most part. We attempted to cycle into the Andes but after 6 hours of riding, 1500m of climbing, and mass water bombings around every corner we decided to hitch-hike into La Paz. We started to feel threatened, especially after a local driver pulled over and told us it was very dangerous and we shouldn´t stop ANYWHERE! That´s easy to say, but when we're only going 5km/hr we´re already pretty close to a stand still. Luckily an off-duty Policeman picked us up and drove us the 300km into La paz.

We met my parents a few days ago and have had a super-fantastic time catching up. Surprisingly, we were easily able to talk them into joining us for an adrenaline filled day by cycling down the world´s most dangerous road. At 4700m we negotiated our way down 3600m of the most death defying road we´ve ever been on. We followed a 3m wide rocky-gravel trail with a 500m straight drop for a shoulder. No wonder this route has been labeled "The Death Road". Fortunately we all came out unscathed and I must say that my parents did extremely well. I was unbelieveably impressed that they were able to cycle the entire road and even beat another couple who were closer to our age. Goes to show you´re never too "developed in years", to try new things.
